What is Write at the Shoreline...
Write at the Shoreline is the name I have given to my journaling practice, workshops and creative sessions. It grew from something I know to be helpful: the act of writing things down and giving yourself space to think.
The shoreline is a place where endings and beginnings meet the page. Somewhere to pause, notice the details and allow your thoughts and feelings to emerge.
So much of modern life happens quickly and noisily. We move from one task to the next, take in endless information and rarely pause long enough to hear our own thoughts. Write at the Shoreline offers a different pace, with time to slow down, reflect and explore what is really going on.
Through guided prompts, conversation and time to write, I help people discover that journaling is not about being a writer or getting the words right. It is about paying attention, finding clarity and making room for creativity, honesty and perspective.
About Elizabeth
I have spent much of my working life in creative roles, across art, design, interiors, writing and community project work. What has connected them all is a love of ideas, storytelling and creating inviting spaces.
Alongside that, journaling has been a constant for most of my adult life. Writing has helped me through change, difficult decisions, times of uncertainty and the everyday habit of overthinking. It has been one of the ways I make sense of myself and the world around me.
Write at the Shoreline grew out of a desire to share something I know can make a real difference. Through workshops, retreats and talks, I now help others use writing to reflect, think clearly and discover their own journaling style.
Sessions and workshops
I offer a range of reflective writing and journaling sessions designed to be welcoming, thoughtful and accessible to all.
Current sessions include two-hour journaling workshops, longer creative retreat days and talks for groups and organisations. These are open to anyone, whether you are completely new to journaling or returning after many years.
In each session, you’ll get guided prompts, time to write, space to reflect and optional sharing in a relaxed, supportive setting.
I currently offer:
• Two-hour guided journaling workshops
• Creative retreat days with space for deeper reflection
• Talks for groups and organisations on journaling, creativity and wellbeing
• Bespoke sessions for community groups, workplaces and events

Why journaling matters...
Journaling gives us a place to process what modern life often leaves unaddressed. Thoughts, feelings, worries and ideas can build up when they stay in our heads. Writing them down can create space, perspective and a clearer sense of what is really going on.
The research behind journaling...
• Helps reduce stress by putting thoughts and feelings into words.
• Can lower cortisol, the body’s main stress hormone, when practised regularly.
• May ease anxiety and improve mood by calming racing thoughts and creating greater emotional balance.
• Engages the prefrontal cortex, the area of the brain linked to clear thinking, planning, perspective and emotional regulation.
• Creates psychological distance, helping us step back and see situations more clearly rather than simply reacting.
• Handwriting can improve focus and memory, as slower physical writing often supports concentration and deeper processing.
• Increases self-awareness by helping people recognise patterns, habits and triggers more clearly.
• Supports creativity by helping ideas flow more freely and quietening self-criticism.
• Gratitude journaling has been linked to improved wellbeing and more positive mood states.
• Even short sessions can help.
Just a few minutes of regular writing can make a difference.
